The Ioga Academy Thailand Teacher Training Program

Main Purpose

The aim of IOGA ACADEMY, for the teachers training course, is to help you to become a confident and good Hatha yoga teacher. The program is designed and sequenced starting from learning and practicing the asanas. You need to make a trip through your body and discover the sequence of movements and alignments.

Breath, is the key to a good practice of yoga, no breathing no yoga, whether you practice yoga in a more athletic way or a more meditative style, the breath will always be the vehicle to travel, to your inner understanding of the subtle energies, withing you and around you.

Movement amplifies the further away than the limits of our body, just imagine that when you do Yoga you become a powerful móvil Athena, which creates positive energies towards earth, people, and cosmic world. Yoga is about understanding, so that is why Ioga Academy wants to keep the TTC focused and simple so that you really learn and experience.

Ioga Academy doesn't want to blunt you, with a heavy program full of amazing subjects, because the reality is that you need to truly focus on what is important, and you only have 27 days. Off course, Ioga Academy is in for adventure and playful activities, this is why during your free time they offer with different adventure companies of the island experiences such us, paddle surf, diving, free diving, snorkeling, kayaking, trekking, cycling, kitesurfing, windsurfing.

One of the highlights of the program is learning how to teach, for the teaching is more about facilitating, so The Ioga Academy call themselves yoga facilitators because they believe that, learning is about connecting with your wise man or woman and bringing out the best in you.

How they connect with others and create empathy is the key opener to engage a group in experiencing a learning process. They bring some icebreakers games, which you can use, to connect quicker and faster to any group, whether they are, adults or children. Gaining confidence, as a yoga facilitator is just been your self-be authentic, connecting from heart to heart.

Experience and finding your own teaching style comes with practice, more than being perfect in the teaching is about being caring, listening and observing.

The educational timeline of the program during the next 27 days will flow into a very creative program where you are invited to be a very active participant, you will go in and out different scenarios, investigating and learning the nearly 100 asanas, to debating and learning about the most, important aspects of yoga, always taking yoga to the practical aspect, that will help you for your teachings.

For the first two weeks especially, you will be focused on the practical teaching and alignment, learning around 100 Hatha yoga postures. You will repeat sequences and go through all the asanas in a very comprehensible way, which for sure you won't forget. During this time you will also go through, different pranayama breathing and the main Bandhas.

There are 80 hours of yoga practice, two practices a day, of two hours each from Monday to Friday, and one practice on Saturday mornings.

For the next last 2 weeks, once you shall have learned the different asanas, you will then enter the therapeutical application of yoga, Thai massage, Thai yoga, and Hatha yoga belong to the same family and are deeply related, you will use the Thai massage or assisted yoga, as I called it to understand, how the asanas work from an energetical point of view, how are they related to the chakras, to the energetical body (energy lines, marma points).

The philosophy teachings of yoga will be, debate talks were you will bring the ancient but at the same time actual knowledge into your own life experiences so you can inspire yourselves. On theory talks, you will learn about Vedanta. “Vedanta” is a combination of two words: “Veda,” which means “knowledge,” and “anta,” which means “the end of” or “the goal of.”

In this context, the goal of knowledge isn’t intellectual, the limited knowledge you acquire by reading books. “Knowledge” here means the knowledge of God as well as the knowledge of the own divine nature. Vedanta, then, is the search for self-knowledge as well as the search for God.

Yoga philosophy, It’s a kind of self-guided book, where you will find a whole range of ethical ways of life. Like (Yamas), lifestyle observances (Niyamas), postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama), withdrawal of the senses (pratyahara), concentration (Dharana), meditation (dhyana), and absorption into the divine (samadhi).

For the anatomy and alignment, you will use different sources like the videos of Paul Grilley or the anatomy book of Leslie Kaminoff and Amy Matthews. Anatomy, as you may imagine, is a very profound and knowledgeable subject.

You will go over the anatomy in a very functional and practical way, from the hand of Monika Karsai, she will share with us her 19 year experience treating patients from spinal injuries and other different diseases, as well as professional sport man and woman, that have damage there muscular tissues by overtraining or over stretching.

As yoga facilitators, you need to observe the participants, their bodies, and especially know if they have any special muscular or spinal injuries that may affect their practice. In case of serious injuries or affections always recommend they visit a specialist physician. Of the total of the 200-hour of the TTC, 40 hours will be dedicated for you to practice, teaching and have a first-hand experience and feedback on how is your teaching style and especially picking up confidence.

This will be the general curriculum for the TTC and our guideline, Ioga Academy is open and flexible to time proposals regarding themes that you may be interested in or that you may find interesting to go deeper.

TESTIMONIALS

  • Review by Cristina Navaretta

I have been practicing yoga for 10 years and teaching yoga for 2 years. I have traveled the world and study with many different teachers. I can say without hesitation that Eleonora is one of the best yoga teachers I have ever come across. Despite the fact that she is a lovely person with a beautiful energy, she is extremely knowledgeable. She has the depth of yogic knowledge and understanding that can only be cultivated over many years, with much discipline and self study. You can tell that she has put in the personal work to take her teachings to a much deeper and more meaningful level than most. I have also worked with Eleonora professionally, as I was Director of a yoga school where we partnered on Trainings and program creation. She is very professional, reliable and a wonderful collaborator full of passion and integrity. Eleonora, you are a true gem, thank you for inspiring me to go deeper in my practice, you have made me a better student and a better teacher, I am forever grateful.

Now a days that yoga has fused with the Western world and our modern lives, it's so often one can experience ego, superficiality, competition and self-demanding attitudes in students and teachers within the yoga sphere. Eleonora stands out as a refreshing contrast to this; I experience her as a person and teacher with a high level of authenticity, sincerity and integrity with what she does. I appreciate her for bringing in encouragement of freeing oneself from the pressure and expectations that comes from modern society ; to not bring this pressure into the yoga practice, but rather move from a place of deeper internal values such as self-love, bodypositivity, acceptance and inclusiveness. Eleonora has the skill of maintaining flexibility, adaptability and inclusiveness with all levels and conditions of students whilst being a very advanced practitioner herself. On top of this, she has an amazing understand of anatomy and alignment and good skills in sharing those in her classes. Thank you Eleoneora, for helping me understand that yoga indeed is an internal, intimate and inclusive practice and path of life, thank you for being the teacher and role model that I needed more than I thought.

Eleonora is an incredible instructor with an authentic presence that commands attention. Her spiritual vitality and passionate fervour keep me connected in the practice and provide a sense of purpose on the mat. Eleonora has an exceptional ability to personally support each student in a group setting while keeping attentive to breathing and posture detail. After just a few classes, I’ve already noticed myself better balanced and poised in and outside of the yoga room--my ‘uddiyana bandha’ is rejuvenated!

Yoga? The best investment of time and money in my life. I feel much lighter, more aware and more concentrated when I have to deal with demanding tasks. I've learned to notice and modify my bad postural habits. Now I manage my stress in a different, healthier way.

  • Review by Jennifer Hayes

One of the most profound experiences I had this week during the retreat was developing my yoga practice. Over the years I've picked it up and laid it down numerous times; often finding it difficult to return to it. This week, we were instructed by a phenomenal teacher Eleonora Trani, who is a "master" herself and no doubt channeling those who came before her. Feeling fear and vulnerability due to health issues, I resisted initially with a long list of, 'I can't do that!' Her response to the class was, "Of course you can't if you say you can't without trying" Setting an intention/motivation, the individual attention given, and the group dynamic, had me feeling as if I was doing yoga for the first time. Never thought I'd be "able" to do yoga once a day, let alone twice! Train your mind and breath and your body will follow. Holistic way of being...happy, happy and enormously grateful to Eleonora.

  • Review by Andrea from Los Angeles

I had the wonderful opportunity to practice with Eleonora during a recent study abroad class with Antioch University Los Angles at the Institut Vajra Yogini in Marzens, France. The course was 'The Integration of Buddhism and Psychology: East and West join in France'. Eleonora was our yoga instructor and we were so impressed by her passion and wisdom she has for the practice. In that short 7 day course, I learned more from Eleonora about the practice of yoga and the right positioning than I have in the 10+ years I have practiced yoga in the States. Thank you very much, we will never forget our experience with you.

Practicing yoga in the company has changed me in many ways. For example, taking that deep breath before answering an annoying question, or facing a stressful moment. It changes a lot of things. It's true that we all know it, but if you don't practice yoga and mindfulness, we always forget about it. I sleep better, and have to add that due to my age and after menopause, my sleep has became very light and I used to wake up very often at night. Now, although I wake up, I fall asleep once again. I have more facility to relax and let go. Physically, practicing yoga gives me a sensation of general well being. I feel much lighter. Everything is easier. Mentally, well, I'll just say that every time I remember how good I feel after a yoga class, I can't avoid talking about it with my people, and I always advise them to start practicing. I wish I'd started years ago!

  • Review by a traveler

I have been practicing Yoga with Eleonora for two years now. I took my first class soon after I was diagnosed with systemic lupus, an autoimmune disease that affects the joints (and, therefore, the whole body mobility). Since then, I have started going to Eleonora’s classes regularly, with the obvious intention of slowing my joints' degeneration (as much as it was possible). The physical limitations I had when I started have nothing to do with who I am today - not only I have managed to slow down the weakening and stiffening process I was going through, but I am every day more flexible, agile, capable and strong. And since the improvement is constant, I now aspire to much more! A decision based on the need to improve my physical fitness, in fact, has soon become also an unexpected source of emotional balance, mental awareness and energy control. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "Strength does not come from physical capacity; it comes from an indomitable will." I’ve always had an indomitable will, but I used to loose far too much energy in the process of achieving my goals, with the result that I’ve often managed to reach them, but I’ve also ended up being truly exhausted. Today, instead, thanks to my yoga practice and to Eleonora, I have learned how to manage my energy and resources in a way that allows me to be more productive and effective, and at the same time more gentle with myself. I hope I will continue on this path for a very long time. Thanks Eleonora.

My level in yoga was very modest but I had to learn, and their passion and kindness immediately put me in confidence, and I found in Mercedes and Roberto the help necessary to progress in safety. With theoretical and technical approaches, the course is very rich, take a notebook, there is a lot to learn!

Pyramid Yoga in Koh Phangan, Thailand.

14 Years in Thailand. Pyramid Yoga was the first yoga school on Koh Phangan, and is still going strong with retreats, teacher training and daily classes.

Take refuge at our beautiful mountain retreat center on Koh Phangan. Boasting breath taking ocean views, our Thai haven is nestled amongst coconut palms overlooking the tranquil Haad Salad beach.

A longtime favourite of past kings of Thailand, Koh Phangan (pronounced "Koh Phangan") is one of three small islands just east of the mainland in the Gulf of Southern Thailand. Known for its white sandy beaches, warm emerald waters, abundant coral reefs and famous Full Moon Parties, the seemingly small island is large enough to entertain both passers by and long-staying wanderers.

In only a short walk or scooter ride, our students frequent the countless nearby beaches - all perfect for diving and snorkelling, a variety of restaurants and cafes, natural waterfalls, hiking trails, Buddhist temples, alternative therapy practitioners, Thai-style herbal steam rooms, Sunday drum circles, numerous fresh produce markets and Thong Sala's weekend walk-through artisan market.

Due to the mountainous topography of Koh Phangan, more than half the island has been designated National Park and is generally inaccessible. Large areas of almost untouched pristine rain forest supports a thriving environment of diverse flora and fauna.

However, for those coming to us from the regular 9-5 grind and unable to disconnect entirely, never fear! Our jungle sanctuary is but a stones throw away from hi-speed internet, public telephones, ATM services and most other modern amenities to which we've become accustomed.
