WHAT ARE THE EIGHT
BRANCHES?
The Eight Branches refer to the eight arms or eight areas practiced
in Classical Chinese Medicine. These branches are:
* MEDITATION
* MOVING MEDITATION
* DIET
* PHILOSOPHY/SPIRITUALITY
* FENG SHUI
* BODY WORK
* HERBOLOGY
* ACUPUNCTURE
All of these branches play a role in helping us to regain and maintain
our health. Of the eight branches the most important and influential
branches are the first four.
These branches roughly correspond to keeping a calm and clear mind,
getting appropriate exercise, eating the correct foods and maintaining
a positive well balanced philosophy or spiritual outlook. In short,
they are lifestyle factors. The first four branches are choices
and actions that you do for yourself. The importance of these branches
cannot be understated. They represent key elements to your long-term
health and well being.
The later four branches are, in general, things that others do for
you. These branches can have a powerful and long lasting effect
on our health and quality of life. The goal of these branches is
to place the mind and body back into a state of harmony and balance.
Once we are in a place of harmony it is easier to maintain this
balance.
